Watercolor Studio Afternoon

Paper, paint and an unhurried afternoon with a visiting artist who believes everyone can make something lovely.

Painting without pressure

Our studio overlooks the courtyard, and on the first Saturday of each month it fills with easels. A visiting watercolor artist walks the group through a simple scene, a pear on a plate or the bend of a garden path, and then lets everyone loose. Watercolor Studio welcomes complete beginners as warmly as residents who have painted for decades.

Bring a friend, take home a painting

Family members and friends are welcome to paint alongside residents. Brushes, paper and paint are provided, along with aprons and large-grip brushes for tired hands. Finished pieces dry on the windowsill and the best of the month are framed for the hallway gallery, chosen by resident vote.

Why residents love the studio

Creative afternoons that keep hands and minds busy

The studio is open every day, with weekly classes, a supply cupboard anyone may borrow from and a sunny window seat.

Visiting artists, resident teachers and supplies that adapt to tired or arthritic hands

Large-grip brushes, tabletop easels and seated workstations mean nobody has to sit out because of their grip.

A hallway gallery that changes every month, curated by the residents themselves

Residents vote on which pieces to frame, and families often come by just to see what is new on the walls.
