Medical-Grade Skincare at Home: What to Use Between Visits

June 2, 2026Skincare, GuidesBy the Linden team

Between clinic visits, a short routine does most of the work: a gentle cleanser, an antioxidant serum in the morning, a retinoid at night when your skin tolerates it, a good moisturizer and daily sunscreen. Five steps, used consistently, beat a crowded shelf.

Why concentration and consistency matter

Professional lines are usually formulated with tested concentrations of active ingredients and stable packaging, and they are selected by a provider who has seen your skin. That does not make every product better, but it takes the guesswork out of combining actives safely.

A five-step starting routine

  1. Morning cleanse

Gentle and non-stripping, or just water if skin is dry.

  2. Antioxidant serum

Vitamin C or a similar serum to support daytime defense.

  3. Sunscreen

Mineral or hybrid SPF 30 or higher, reapplied outdoors.

  4. Evening retinoid

Introduced slowly, two or three nights a week at first.

  5. Moisturizer

Morning and night, richer in winter.

The right routine is the one you actually use every day.

When to pause

Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids about a week before peels, microneedling and some laser treatments, and restart only when your provider says so. If skin stings or peels unexpectedly, simplify to cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen and let us know.
