Laser hair removal only affects hairs in their active growth phase, so sessions are timed to catch new follicles as they enter that phase. Face and underarms usually return every four to six weeks, while legs and back return every eight to ten.
Hair cycles in plain terms
Every hair moves through growing, resting and shedding phases, and at any moment only a portion of the hairs in an area are growing. The laser targets pigment in the active hair's root, which is why one session can never reach every follicle. A well-timed series catches each group as it becomes active.
Typical return windows by area
| Area | Return window | Typical sessions |
|---|---|---|
| Upper lip and chin | 4 to 6 weeks | 6 to 8 |
| Underarms | 4 to 6 weeks | 6 to 8 |
| Bikini line | 6 to 8 weeks | 6 to 8 |
| Legs | 8 to 10 weeks | 6 to 8 |
| Back | 8 to 10 weeks | 6 to 10 |
The calendar is part of the treatment, not an afterthought.
Keeping your rhythm
Shave the day before each session, but never wax, pluck or thread between sessions, because the root needs to stay in place. Avoid tanning and self-tanner for two weeks before a visit. If you miss a window, simply book the next available time; your plan can be adjusted.
Frequently asked
Shorter gaps do not help, because the next group of hairs is not yet active.
You can continue with strict sunscreen use, but avoid tanning before sessions.
Some finer regrowth is normal. Touch-ups once or twice a year keep things smooth.
