(HOW WE BEGAN)

One house
at a time

OMBRIA opened in 2019 above a bakery, in one borrowed room with a folding table in it. The brief we set ourselves has not moved since: compose a house, do not furnish it. Our first commission was two rooms and a corridor, and the opening week went on nothing except learning how the sun crossed that floor.

Nine years later the list is still short, because two of us carry every house end to end. You meet the same people at the first measure-up and on the morning the keys go back.

(PHILOSOPHY)

Books and a dark ceramic bowl on a low oak table, seen from above.

What we come back to on every house.

(01)

Light comes first

Where the sun lands decides the plan. Objects arrive later, and only if the light still works with them.

(02)

Honest material

Plaster that reads as plaster, oak allowed to darken. Nothing imitating something it is not.

(03)

Enough is enough

A room is done when taking one more thing out would cost you something.
