Comfort and companionship when time matters most

When a resident or family chooses hospice or palliative care, the goal shifts from doing more to doing what matters. Bramblewood works side by side with the licensed hospice provider of your choice. They direct the medical plan, and our care partners make sure each day is as comfortable, quiet and personal as possible.

Residents can remain in the suite they know, surrounded by familiar staff, photographs and routines. For families, that continuity is often the greatest comfort of all.

How we support comfort

  • Comfort-first routines: repositioning, mouth care, soft lighting and favorite music, at the resident's pace.
  • Close partnership: daily notes shared with the hospice nurse and quick calls when needs change.
  • Room for family: a fold-out chair, meal trays and overnight stays whenever families wish.
  • Spiritual and emotional support: visits from chaplains of any faith, counselors and trained volunteers.

For the family

We keep a family lounge with coffee, snacks and a quiet corner for phone calls. Our staff can help arrange visits from grandchildren, pets or a favorite musician, and we hold a short remembrance gathering for neighbors and staff when the time comes, if the family would like one.

Questions about hospice can be hard to ask. Our nursing director is glad to talk through what to expect, how hospice benefits generally work and how to choose a provider, without any pressure.

Talking about what matters

Some of the most meaningful conversations happen during this season of life. Our staff can help families arrange a favorite meal, a visit from an old friend, a recorded message for grandchildren or simply a quiet afternoon by the window. These small things are often what families remember most.

When a resident is nearing the end of life, we make sure family members know they are welcome to stay as long as they wish, day or night. Our care partners check in gently, bring tea and meals, and give families privacy when they need it.

Afterward, we offer families time to collect belongings without hurry, and our staff stay in touch with a card and a call in the weeks that follow. Many families tell us that this continuity of kindness meant a great deal to them.

Questions families often bring

Families frequently ask how they will know when to call hospice, whether choosing comfort care means giving up, and how to talk with a parent about their wishes. There are no wrong questions. Our nursing director and social worker will meet with you privately, explain what we see day to day and help you prepare for conversations with physicians, so that decisions feel shared rather than rushed.

Questions

Questions about hospice support

Short, honest answers to what families ask us most often about this kind of support.

Can my father stay in his own suite on hospice?

In most cases, yes. Residents receiving hospice can remain in their suite, with the hospice provider visiting and our care partners providing daily support.

Do you choose the hospice provider?

No, families choose. We work with several licensed providers in the Raleigh area and are happy to share what we know about each.

Can family stay overnight?

Yes. We provide a fold-out chair, extra linens and meal trays, and the family lounge is open around the clock.

What is the difference between palliative and hospice support?

Palliative care focuses on comfort at any stage of a serious illness, alongside other treatment. Hospice is comfort care when treatment is no longer the goal. Your physicians can explain which fits.
