DILIGENCE WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Every area I take on gets the same preparation, the same discretion and the same direct line to me. I keep the list short on purpose so each file gets real depth.

01 · Business Law

Structure That Lets a Company Grow.

Companies seldom fail in one dramatic moment. They slip on a loose agreement or a split nobody wrote down.

I work with founders, family companies and closely held firms across the Carolinas on the documents and decisions that settle who controls what. That means the agreement you sign on day one, the buy-sell terms you hope never to use, and the talk that follows when a partner wants out. The aim is fewer surprises and a record that holds.

Covers entity formation and operating agreements, buy-sell planning, disputes among shareholders and members, company purchases with the diligence they need, minutes and board practice, succession planning, and partner separations.

In short: “A well-drafted agreement costs far less than any lawsuit it prevents, and it keeps partners talking when the business hits a rough year.”

02 · DWI & Criminal Defense

When a Charge Changes Everything.

An arrest puts your job, your license and your name on the table all at once. The first days matter a great deal, and so does having someone who explains every step before it happens, so that nothing about the process catches you off guard.

I represent people charged with DWI, drug offenses, assault and financial crimes in Mecklenburg County and nearby courts. That means reading every report, testing every stop and search, and preparing as if the case will be tried, whether or not it ends up in front of a jury. You hear from me before every court date.

Covers DWI and license hearings, drug possession and trafficking charges, assault and domestic matters, fraud and embezzlement allegations, and expungement petitions.

03 · Civil Disputes

A Clear Path Through a Hard Disagreement.

A dispute between neighbors, partners or companies can drain money and sleep long before anyone files suit. Most of my civil work starts with a letter, a meeting and an honest read of the evidence, and many matters end there, without a courtroom and without months of cost.

Whether you are bringing a claim or answering one, I build the file early so you can negotiate from strength, mediate with a clear floor and go to court fully prepared if talks stall. Either way, you always know the next step.

Covers business and commercial disputes, breach of contract claims, property line and easement conflicts, defamation, emergency court orders and injunctions, arbitration, and court-ordered mediation.

04 · Contract Drafting & Review

Agreements Written to Survive a Bad Day.

The clause that hurts you is usually the one nobody read twice: an auto-renewal, a broad indemnity, or a termination right that only runs in one direction. Those are the lines worth a second look.

I draft and review vendor, employment, licensing and construction agreements with one question in mind: what happens if this goes sideways? You get a marked-up copy, a short memo in plain English and a list of the terms that are actually worth negotiating before you sign.

Covers vendor and supply agreements, employment and independent contractor terms, confidentiality and non-compete clauses, licensing deals, construction contracts, and the enforcement or renegotiation of agreements that are already signed and in force.

In short: “Read it as if the other side will test every single word, because one day they very well might.”

05 · Property & Real Estate

Closings That Close. Titles That Hold.

For most people a home or a building is the largest purchase they will ever make, and North Carolina requires an attorney at the closing table for good reason. Small errors in a deed, a survey or a lien search can cost owners dearly years later, often long after anyone remembers why.

I handle residential and commercial closings, title questions, leases and the disputes that follow when a deal or a boundary goes wrong, so the paperwork matches what you believe you bought, and so it keeps matching when you sell.

Covers residential and commercial closings, due diligence reviews, title defects and quiet title actions, commercial leases, landlord and tenant disputes, and HOA conflicts.

06 · Wills & Estates

A Plan Your Family Can Follow.

Estate planning is not only for the wealthy or the elderly. It is for anyone with children, a home, a business or a clear view of who should make decisions for them if they one day cannot, and who should look after the people they love.

I prepare wills, trusts and powers of attorney in plain language, guide executors through probate in Mecklenburg and nearby counties, and step in when a will or a trust is challenged by relatives. Each plan is reviewed with you every few years so it keeps doing the job you intended.

Covers wills and revocable trusts, durable and health care powers of attorney, guardian nominations, probate and estate administration, trust administration, and will contests.

In short: “The kindest document you will ever sign is the one that spares your family a painful guess.”

07 ยท Still Unsure?

Unsure which area applies?

Plenty of situations touch two or three areas at once, like a business dispute with a property angle or a family estate that owns a company. If you cannot tell where yours belongs, call anyway. The first conversation is how we find out together, and it costs you nothing at all.

Questions clients ask

We talk through what happened, what you want and what the law allows. You leave with a clear next step, a rough sense of timing and cost, and an honest view.

It depends on the work. Many transactional matters are flat fee; disputes and defense are hourly or retainer based. You get the terms in writing first.

Contracts and closings often take weeks. Contested cases can take months. I give you a realistic range at the start and update it as things move.

Often, yes. Many problems cross business, property and estate lines. If something falls outside my practice, I refer you to someone I trust.

Your conversations with me are protected by attorney-client privilege, and files are stored securely with access limited to the people working on your matter.

I will. I do not hand files to junior associates. You have my direct line and a reply within one business day.

(HOW I WORK)

HOW I WORK

Within a week of taking on a matter you receive a short written plan: the goal, the likely steps, the decision points and a realistic range for time and cost.

Records, contracts and witness details are gathered while memories are fresh, long before a deadline forces the issue or a key document goes missing.

Every step is weighed against what it will cost you. Sometimes the best move is a phone call to the other side, not a motion.

You hear from me at every milestone and at least every two weeks, even when the update is that we are waiting on the other side.
