Marguerite Whitlock and Tobias Reyes founded the firm after years inside a large practice, where they watched clients get passed down the corridor the moment a matter became inconvenient. Here the partner you meet at the first consultation keeps your file to the end, with four more attorneys behind them for bankruptcy, probate, construction, tax and injury work.

Construction Law

Construction disputes for owners and builders: liens, defects, delays and payment. The contract, the plans and the job site are read together, so the dispute is argued on what was actually built.

IRS Problems

Tax liens, levies, wage garnishments and offers in compromise. When a letter from the IRS arrives, the options for settling with the IRS are wider than most people think, and the first step is reading exactly what the notice says.

How We Work

Four Plain Stages, From The First Call ToThe Last Signature.

01

The First Conversation

You call, you explain what is going on, and you talk it through with a partner, not an intake line. The first consultation is free, and by the end of it you know which options fit your situation.

02

Gathering The Paper

Bills, collection letters, tax notices, the will, the contract, the accident report. Every one of these matters runs on paper, so the next step is collecting yours and reading it properly.

03

The Plan

With the paper in hand, you get a plain explanation of the route: which chapter of bankruptcy, which probate path, which approach to the IRS or the other side, and what each one asks of you.

04

Filing Or Resolving

Then the work gets done. The petition is filed, the estate is opened, the offer goes to the IRS or the dispute moves toward settlement, and you are told what happens next at every step.

One Partner, Start To Finish

The partner you meet at the first consultation is the partner who reads your paperwork, prepares your case and answers your questions about it. No rotating associates, no call center, no file that changes hands halfway through.

What that buys you

The same lawyer on your matter from the first call to the last page.

Business Sense Before Legal Theory

Debt, estates and construction disputes all come down to numbers and paper. Our partners read a balance sheet, a pay application and a set of plans as carefully as they read the statute.

What that buys you

Advice that starts from what the numbers can actually support.

The office is on Marquette Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, and the work covers Saint Paul, Hennepin County, Ramsey County and the rest of the metro. Meetings in Saint Paul are by appointment.

What that buys you

A Free First Answer

The first consultation costs nothing. You leave that first conversation knowing your options, whether or not you go any further, and nobody calls you afterward to chase a signature.

What that buys you

A clear picture before you commit to anything.

Chapter 7 Or Chapter 13: How The Choice Gets Made

Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 are the two routes most individuals look at. Which one fits depends on income, the property you want to keep and what you are trying to protect, such as a home facing foreclosure. The choice gets made after reading your numbers, not before.

Settling An Estate Here From Out Of State

Settling a parent's estate is hard enough without a string of flights to do it. Much of the work can run through a local attorney, with the family kept informed and signing what needs signing from home.

Questions

What People Ask Before TheyCall A Lawyer.

Not sure where you stand?

Most people call with a stack of letters and no idea which part matters. That is normal. Start with the phone call and we will sort the pile with you.

(555) 014-2200

What happens at the first meeting?

You explain what is going on, bring or send whatever paperwork you have, and talk it through with the partner who would handle it. The first consultation is free, and you leave knowing the options that fit your situation, whether or not you go further.

Will I lose my home if I file bankruptcy?

Not necessarily. Many people who file keep their homes, and Chapter 13 is often used to catch up on a mortgage over time. Whether your home can be kept depends on your own facts, which is what the first conversation is for.

Can bankruptcy halt a wage garnishment?

Often, yes. Filing a bankruptcy case generally triggers an automatic stay, which in many cases halts garnishments and collection activity while the case is open. How it applies to your debts, including taxes, is something to go over with an attorney.

Do I have to travel here to handle probate?

Not always. Many out-of-state family members, beneficiaries and personal representatives handle an estate here through a local attorney without repeated trips. What your role requires depends on the estate and the court.

What does a construction arbitrator do?

An arbitrator hears a construction dispute outside of court, reads the contracts, plans and evidence from both sides, and issues a decision that courts review only on narrow grounds.
