Of Counsel

Russell Carver

Russell brings more than three decades of trial experience to complex property and business disputes, advising colleagues and clients on strategy.

Portrait of Russell Carver

Russell has tried civil cases in Colorado courts for more than thirty years. He joined Larkspur as of counsel to focus on complex property and business disputes. Early in his career he represented ranchers and water districts in some of the state's longest-running disputes.

He is known for careful preparation and a plain-spoken style in the courtroom, explaining complicated facts in terms anyone can follow. Judges and juries have long appreciated his habit of building a case around a few clear exhibits. He prepares each witness carefully, walking them through the courtroom before the first day of trial.

His work includes easement and boundary litigation, construction disputes and partnership conflicts that require trial readiness from the start. He walks each property with the client and the surveyor before forming a view on any boundary claim.

Russell also mentors the firm's newer attorneys, reviewing trial plans and sitting second chair when a case benefits from his experience. His practice notes on trial preparation are now part of the firm's training for every new litigator.

He spends summers fly fishing on the Arkansas River and is a volunteer judge for high school mock trial competitions. Russell and his wife have raised three children and now spoil a growing number of grandchildren.
