A renovated kitchen at dusk with dark cabinetry, a marble island, brass pendants, and a steel framed window

They treated our house like their own, kept the site swept every night, and wrapped the kitchen two days early.

About us

full service remodel builders

Kelverton Build Co. started in a two-stall garage on the west side of Grand Rapids with one truck, a table saw, and a rule that still runs the company: the carpenter who bids your job is the carpenter who builds it. Two decades on we handle kitchens, baths, additions, lower levels, and whole-floor restorations across Kent and Ottawa counties, with our own crews on the framing, tile, and trim. Every job gets a fixed scope and a printed schedule.

What we build

Six kinds of work, one crew standard.

A finished kitchen with white oak cabinets, stone counters, and a deep apron sink in morning light A finished bathroom with a freestanding tub, stone tile walls, and a walnut vanity The inside of a new rear addition with an exposed beam ceiling and glass doors to a backyard A finished lower level family room with built-in shelving and recessed lighting A restored entry hall and staircase with refinished treads, plaster walls, and original trim A new cedar deck and paver walkway behind a house with a low stone retaining wall

We take kitchens back to the studs, correct whatever the last remodel hid, and rebuild with cabinetry sized to the room instead of the catalog. Layout comes first, on paper, until the sink, range, and refrigerator stop fighting. Then our own crews run rough-in, tile, counters, and trim.

Bathrooms are the smallest rooms with the most ways to go wrong. We build the shower pan properly, waterproof behind the tile, vent the fan outside instead of into the attic, and set fixtures at heights that suit the people using them. Most baths run three to five weeks.

An addition has to look like it was always there. We match the roof pitch, the siding reveal, and the window proportions, then tie new framing and mechanicals into the house so the floors meet and the ceiling lines carry through. Permits are handled before lumber is ordered.

Basements fail on water and ceiling height, so that is where we start. Drainage, sump work, and vapor control happen before any framing goes up, and we plan soffits around the ductwork you already have. The result reads like the rest of the house, not a box underneath it.

Older houses here deserve better than a gut job. We patch plaster instead of replacing it, save and re-hang original doors, mill trim to match what is on the wall, and refinish floors rather than cover them. Where systems change, the new work stays out of sight.

Decks, porches, paver walks, and retaining walls, built on footings that respect our frost line. Posts go below grade, the ledger gets flashed correctly, and the finished grade carries water away from the house. Cedar, ash, or composite, with hardware that outlasts the boards.

Our work

Recent builds, start to finish

Three projects with the scope, the schedule we held, and what the homeowner said afterward.

A finished dark green kitchen with quartzite counters and a built-in banquette

Ottawa Hills kitchen rebuild

A 1926 kitchen carved into three small rooms became one working space. We pulled a bearing wall with a flush beam, moved the range to the exterior wall for a straight duct run, and built a banquette into the window bay. The new oak floor was woven into the original, so the seam is hard to find, and the old pantry door was saved and re-hung.

Kitchen7 weeks

They found rot under the old sink wall on day three, priced the repair that same afternoon, and still handed the kitchen back on the date we were given at signing.

Dana Reyes, West Michigan homeowner

A bluestone path and cedar deck with wide steps, ornamental grasses, and a fire bowl

Bluestone path and cedar deck

The back yard drained toward the foundation and the old deck sat two steps too high. We regraded, set a dry-laid bluestone path with a cut stone edge, and rebuilt the deck in cedar with wide steps that meet the lawn. A gas line went in for the fire bowl while the trench was already open, and the downspouts now run to daylight past the beds.

Exteriors3 weeks

Three different crews came through and every one of them cleaned up before leaving. The path has been through two Michigan winters now and has not moved.

Miles Okafor, West Michigan homeowner

A primary bathroom with a curbless tile shower and an oak vanity milled to the wall

Primary bath renovation

A cramped bath with a corner tub gave up its closet for a proper shower. We moved a drain, framed a curbless entry, and ran large format tile to a hidden linear drain. The oak vanity was milled to the full wall length, so the room reads calm instead of crowded, and the niche is lit from above.

Bathroom5 weeks

We asked a lot of questions and got straight answers every time, including the ones where the answer was that our idea would cost more than it was worth.

Testimonials

What homeowners tell us

Illustrative demo reviews written for this template, from the kind of clients this site is built to attract.

Our kitchen came back two days early and the punch list had four items on it. Both of those were firsts for us.

Ellen Vasquez

The schedule taped to our fridge was updated every Friday. I always knew who was coming and what they were doing.

Grant Whitley

They protected the floors, the stair rail, and the dog. The crew felt like guests rather than a job site.

Marisol Pena

The bid broke out every allowance, so the final number matched the first number we were quoted.

Naomi Sutherland

They talked us out of a layout we liked and into one that works. Six months in, they were right.

Curtis Ahn

Our plaster was repaired instead of torn out, and the 1908 trim still matches around the new opening.

Hollis Byrne

One lead carpenter for eleven weeks. By the end he knew our house better than we did.

Dev Raghunathan

Permits, engineering, and the inspection schedule were handled without a single phone call from us.

Simone Ferraro

The tile layout was drawn and approved before a single piece got cut. No surprises at the wall.

Jonah Kessler

They came back at eleven months to adjust two doors that had settled. No invoice, no argument.

Adaeze Nwosu

Dust walls and air scrubbers meant we stayed in the house with a toddler through a kitchen gut.

Perry Lindqvist

Every change order arrived in writing with a price before the work happened, not after.

Ask a question

Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Ada, Rockford, Grandville, and Holland, roughly a forty minute drive from the shop on Fulton Street.

A bathroom usually runs three to five weeks, a kitchen six to nine, and an addition four to seven months from permit to punch list. You get a written schedule before demolition and a revised one in any week that changes.

The first visit and the ballpark range cost nothing. A full fixed price bid with drawings and named allowances is a paid design step, and that fee is credited back into the job if you build with us.

Most kitchens and baths need a permit but not an architect. Additions, load bearing changes, and anything structural need stamped drawings, and we manage the survey, engineering, and inspections on your behalf.

Two years on our labor plus the balance of the manufacturer warranty on everything we install. We also come back near the eleven month mark to adjust the doors and drywall seams that settle in the first year.

Usually yes. We build a dust wall, run air scrubbers, keep one bathroom live, and agree on working hours with you. Kitchen clients get a temporary sink and counter set up elsewhere in the house.

Send the form on this page or call the shop. We visit, measure, and talk budget honestly on that first trip, then send a range within a week so you can decide whether a paid bid makes sense.
