Gum Health
AshfordGum health & periodontics
Healthy gums are where healthy teeth begin.
Gum disease is the quiet condition behind most adult tooth loss, and in its early stages it rarely hurts, which is exactly why it goes untreated for years. Our periodontics partner, Dr. Reyes, catches it early and treats it properly, so a problem that is straightforward today does not become an extraction tomorrow.
- Gum health measured at every checkup
- Deep cleaning for early gum disease
- Periodontal maintenance that actually works
- Treatment for receding gums
- Care coordinated with your dentist
- No lectures, ever, about waiting
The disease you can have without knowing
Healthy gums do not bleed. If yours do when you brush or floss, that is the earliest sign of gum inflammation, and it is completely reversible at this stage with proper cleaning and a little coaching. Left alone, it can progress to periodontitis, where the bone that anchors your teeth slowly recedes. Because it is usually painless, most people do not realize it is happening until teeth begin to loosen.
At every checkup we measure the health of your gums tooth by tooth, tracking the small numbers that reveal trouble long before you would feel it. When we see a pattern developing, we act on it early, while the fix is simple, rather than filing it away as a note for next time.
Treating it properly, not just noting it
For established gum disease, a deep cleaning below the gumline, sometimes called scaling and root planing, clears the bacteria and hardened deposits that ordinary cleaning cannot reach, and lets the gums heal back against the tooth. Dr. Reyes then sets a periodontal maintenance rhythm, usually three to four visits a year, because the bacteria return within about ninety days and steady maintenance is what actually holds the ground you have regained.
Coordinated care under one roof
Because our periodontics partner works alongside your general dentist in the same practice, your gum treatment is never a disconnected errand. The two coordinate directly, your records are shared, and your whole mouth is treated as one system rather than a set of separate problems. And you will never get a lecture here about the years you may have waited. We simply start from where you are.
Frequently asked questions
No, though it is common. Bleeding is the earliest sign of gum inflammation, and at this stage it is usually reversible with proper cleaning and technique. It is worth a visit rather than a worry.
It is a thorough cleaning below the gumline, done comfortably with numbing, to clear bacteria and deposits an ordinary cleaning cannot reach. It lets inflamed gums heal back against the tooth.
