The quiet work that keeps everything else small
Most of what goes wrong in a mouth is small, quiet, and cheap to fix, right up until it is not. Good preventive care catches things in the small-and-quiet stage. That is the whole point of coming in.

What an hour with us covers
Rosa leads our hygiene visits, and she is not fast. She clears the plaque and hardened tartar that home brushing cannot reach, polishes away the stains coffee and red wine leave behind, and measures the health of your gums tooth by tooth. Then Dr. Hartley reviews your digital x-rays with you on the screen, checks every tooth and old filling, and does a quick oral-cancer screening.
If everything looks healthy, we tell you so and send you back into your day. If something needs attention, you see exactly what we see, hear the options in plain words, and get honest guidance on what is urgent, what can wait, and what it will cost. Nobody here works on commission, so the only care we recommend is care you actually need.
Why the rhythm matters more than the rule
Twice a year is a fine starting point, not a law. If your gums are healthy and your risk is low, we may leave you on a six-month rhythm for years. If you have a history of gum trouble, we may suggest a three or four month interval, because the bacteria that drive it return within about ninety days of a cleaning. We set your recall around your own mouth and book the next visit before you leave, so it never quietly slips off the calendar.
What one unhurried hygiene visit clears away
Drag the handle across the picture to see the same mouth before and after a routine cleaning and polish. The buildup along the gumline is exactly the part a toothbrush at home can never reach.
Illustrative, for this demo. Individual results vary with the health of your gums, how long it has been, and how much buildup is present.
Six months, or three? Here is how we decide
Recall interval is not a marketing rule, it is a risk judgment. Rosa measures your gums at every visit and we set the rhythm from what she finds, then book it before you leave.
| What we see | Recall we suggest | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Healthy gums, no history | Every 6 months | Bacteria rebuild slowly when the gum pockets are shallow, so twice a year stays ahead of them comfortably. |
| Early gum inflammation | Every 4 months | Bleeding gums mean the bacteria are winning between visits. A shorter loop usually reverses it without any deeper treatment. |
| Treated gum disease | Every 3 months | The bacteria that drive it repopulate a pocket in roughly ninety days, which is why perio maintenance is built on a three-month clock. |
| High decay risk or dry mouth | Every 4 months, plus fluoride | Less saliva means less natural rinsing, so we shorten the loop and add protection rather than waiting for the next filling. |
Illustrative intervals for a demo practice. Your own recall is set with you at your exam, never assigned by a schedule.
