Arrested or under investigation? Call before you talk to anyone else.
The hours after an arrest are confusing and frightening. Police may ask you to explain what happened, friends offer advice, and it can feel like your job, your family and your future are all on the line at once. You have the right to remain silent and the right to a lawyer. Using both is not an admission of anything.
Bexley & Thorne defends people charged with misdemeanors and felonies in Pierce County Superior Court, district courts and municipal courts. We respond quickly, often the same day, and we start protecting your rights before your first court date.
A criminal charge affects more than the courtroom. It can touch your job, a professional license, custody arrangements, immigration status and where you are able to live. We ask about those concerns at the start, because the right strategy for your case depends on what matters most in your life, not only on the elements of the charge.

What happens after an arrest
Every case follows its own path, but most move through these stages. We are with you at each one.
A judge sets conditions of release, which may include bail or a no-contact order.
You receive the formal charges and enter a plea, usually not guilty.
We review the discovery, interview witnesses and look for weaknesses in the State's case.
Your case may be dismissed, reduced, resolved by agreement or taken to trial.
