Criminal Defense Lawyers

Arrested or under investigation? Call before you talk to anyone else.

The hours after an arrest are confusing and frightening. Police may ask you to explain what happened, friends offer advice, and it can feel like your job, your family and your future are all on the line at once. You have the right to remain silent and the right to a lawyer. Using both is not an admission of anything.

Bexley & Thorne defends people charged with misdemeanors and felonies in Pierce County Superior Court, district courts and municipal courts. We respond quickly, often the same day, and we start protecting your rights before your first court date.

A criminal charge affects more than the courtroom. It can touch your job, a professional license, custody arrangements, immigration status and where you are able to live. We ask about those concerns at the start, because the right strategy for your case depends on what matters most in your life, not only on the elements of the charge.

Charges we defend

We handle a wide range of state charges. If yours is not listed, we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

  • Assault and domestic violence
  • Drug possession and distribution
  • Theft, burglary and robbery
  • DUI and physical control
  • Weapons offenses
  • Probation and community custody violations
  • Juvenile charges
  • Record sealing

What happens after an arrest

Every case follows its own path, but most move through these stages. We are with you at each one.

01.Release

A judge sets conditions of release, which may include bail or a no-contact order.

02.Arraignment

You receive the formal charges and enter a plea, usually not guilty.

03.Investigation

We review the discovery, interview witnesses and look for weaknesses in the State's case.

04.Resolution

Your case may be dismissed, reduced, resolved by agreement or taken to trial.

Questions people ask us

General answers for a demo site. Criminal cases turn on specific facts, so please talk with us about yours.

Should I talk to the police if I am innocent?
Politely decline to answer questions until you have spoken with a lawyer. Even truthful statements can be misunderstood or taken out of context later.
What is the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony in Washington?
Misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors carry up to 90 days or 364 days in jail. Felonies carry longer potential sentences and can affect firearm rights, housing and employment.
Can my charge be dismissed?
Sometimes. Dismissals can follow suppressed evidence, witness problems or diversion agreements. No lawyer can promise a dismissal, but we look for every opening.
Can I clear my record later?
Many Washington convictions can be vacated after a waiting period, and some arrest records can be sealed. We can review whether you qualify.
How are criminal defense fees handled?
We quote flat fees for most cases so you know the cost up front. The fee depends on the charge and whether the case goes to trial.

Client stories

What clients say

I was arrested on a Friday night and had a lawyer returning my call before Saturday breakfast. Daniel walked me through every hearing, and I always knew what came next.
After the crash I could not think past the medical bills. Miriam's team took every call from the insurer, explained each offer in plain words, and never rushed us to settle.
They handled my mother's case with real care. Nothing felt like a sales pitch, only steady and honest help while our family was grieving.
