Botanicals we reach for most

The short answer

Oat for calm skin, rose clay for gentle cleansing, jojoba for balance, chamomile for comfort and orris root, our namesake, for its soft powdery scent. Simple, familiar and kind to most skin types.

We named the spa after orris root, the dried iris root perfumers have prized for centuries. It suits us: quiet, grounded and a little old fashioned. Here are the other botanicals our team relies on.

Oat and chamomile

Colloidal oat and chamomile are our first choice for skin that feels tight or reactive. They show up in our calm skin facial and in the soap we use during the steam ritual.

Rose clay

Softer than green or charcoal clays, rose clay lifts oil without leaving skin dry. It is the mask most guests receive during the glow facial.

Jojoba and almond

Our massage oils are built on jojoba and sweet almond, both light enough to absorb without leaving a heavy film.

Familiar plants, used well, beat exotic ones used carelessly.

Questions

Not always. Plants can irritate too, which is why we patch test anything new.

Yes, the front desk blends small bottles to take home.

Love these notes. Would you write one about skincare in winter next?

Tried the bath tip last night and slept better than I have in weeks.
