The steam hall

The steam hall is a vaulted room of warm tile where a soft mist rises from the floor and drifts under the dome. It sits at a comfortable 45 degrees with very high humidity, so it feels gentler on the lungs than the sauna and kinder to anyone new to heat. We scent the air with eucalyptus in the morning and sweet orange in the evening. Benches curve around the walls at two heights, and a cool fountain in the centre lets you splash your face between breaths. It is the room guests return to most often on a long day.

Mist, tile and a slow breath

Moist heat relaxes muscles quickly and makes the skin feel soft and supple, which is why we suggest a visit to the steam hall before any scrub or massage. Twenty minutes is plenty. Sit low if you want less heat, lean back against the warm tile, and let the scent do its quiet work. Afterward, rinse under the rain shower and rest on the heated benches outside before moving on.

The steam hall is also where many guests end their visit. A last ten minutes in the soft mist, a cool rinse and a slow walk back to the changing rooms is a lovely way to close the day before you step outside again.

What sets the steam hall apart

  • Scented mist

We blend the scents here with essential oils, eucalyptus before noon and sweet orange in the afternoon, and keep them light.

  • Curved tile benches

The lower bench is the gentlest seat in the house. Move up a level once your breath has settled and the warmth feels easy.

  • Centre fountain

A cool stone fountain sits in the centre of the hall. Splash your face, rinse your hands and take a slow breath.

Questions about the steam hall

Neither is better. Steam feels softer and wetter, while the sauna is dry and hotter. Many guests enjoy both in the same visit.

The air sits around 45 degrees with very high humidity. It feels softer than the sauna, and the lower bench is the coolest seat if you would like to ease in.
