A Charlottesville community planned around daily life
Willowmere opened in 1994 on 22 acres off Ivy Hollow Road. Today about 140 residents live across its independent, assisted living and memory care neighborhoods.

We plan around the person first

Willowmere began as forty-eight independent apartments built by a group of Charlottesville families who wanted their parents close to home. The assisted living wing came in 2003, memory care support in 2011, and furnished short-stay suites in 2021. Through every addition, the idea has stayed the same: start with how a person likes to live, then plan the help around it.
Every resident who needs support has a written care plan, drawn up with their family before move-in and reviewed every season. Caregivers are assigned to one neighborhood so faces stay familiar, and families have one named contact to call first.

Dad was nervous about leaving his house of forty years. By the second week he had a regular lunch table and a seat at the Wednesday lecture. He calls it his place now.
The care plan meeting was the first time anyone had written down what Mom actually needs. We still use that page when we talk to her doctor.
They learned that my wife hums along to Patsy Cline, and now that is how they start her mornings. It is a small thing that matters a great deal to me.
