Autumn open house and supper, October 18

Willowmere's autumn open house runs from 1:00 to 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, with guided tours of every suite type, short talks from the care team, live music on the front porch and a harvest supper in the Hearth dining room. The afternoon is free and open to the public; please reserve a supper seat by calling the front desk or using the tour form.

The afternoon at a glance

1:00 PMDoors open and tours begin

Guided tours of studios, apartments, memory care and short-stay suites leave the lobby every thirty minutes.

2:30 PMTalk: understanding care plans

Andre Coleman, Director of Health Services, explains how assessments and care plans work.

3:30 PMBluegrass on the porch

A local trio plays on the front porch; cider and pastries at the garden tables.

5:00 PMHarvest supper

A three-course supper in the Hearth dining room, with residents as hosts.

Tours cover the assisted living wing, a model independent apartment, the memory care neighborhood and its courtyard garden, the therapy gym and the art studio. Staff from every department will be on hand, so it is a good day to ask the questions that are hard to fit into a weekday visit.

On the supper menu

Chef Thomas Ashby is cooking with produce from Albemarle County farms and the community's own raised beds: roasted squash soup, braised short ribs or a mushroom and barley pie, and apple crumble with Virginia cider caramel. Soft-texture and low-sodium versions of every course are available; mention any needs when you reserve.

01.Reserve

Call the front desk or use the tour form; note the number in your party.

02.Arrive

Check in on the front porch; name tags are hand-written, no lanyards.

03.Tour

Join any half-hour tour; each lasts about forty minutes.

04.Stay

Supper seating begins at 5:00 PM in the Hearth.

Open house is the one day a year every department is in the same room. Come hungry and bring your questions.

Questions families ask

Do I need to reserve for the tours?
No. Tours are walk-in. Supper seats are limited, so we ask you to reserve those ahead.
Can I bring my parent?
Please do. Many residents first came to an open house with a son or daughter, and the porch music is a gentle way to spend an afternoon.
Is the event accessible?
Yes. All tour routes are step-free, wheelchairs are available at the front desk and the supper room has accessible seating.
