Share an Hour and Brighten a Day

Join a group of more than eighty volunteers who help residents enjoy their days across our three Portland communities.

Volunteers lead clubs, join outings, help at events and simply spend time with residents who love a visitor.

Find Your Place in Our Community

Our volunteers range from high school students to retirees, and many come back week after week for years. Some read the paper aloud, some tend the garden beds, and some just sit and listen.

Every volunteer gets an orientation, a named contact at their community and an invitation to our annual thank-you dinner.

If you have a skill or a hobby to share, residents would love to learn it. If you simply have time, that is more than enough.

Students and Residents: Learning Together

High school and college students bring energy and new ideas to our communities, and residents bring stories and patience. Many friendships begin over a card game or a shared playlist.

Students can earn service hours, and we are happy to sign forms for school programs. Use the interest form to tell us your availability.

Where could you help?

Here are a few of the roles volunteers fill today:

  • Driving the community van for shopping trips and outings
  • Hosting the bistro coffee cart at Cedar Terrace
  • Leading art, music or gardening groups for residents
  • Playing piano or guitar at afternoon socials
  • Sitting with a resident for a card game or a long chat
