Today or right now
Should you call us, or go now?
We are a daytime practice. Many problems are right for a same-day visit with us. Some cannot wait for a slot, and those need an emergency hospital right away.
Call us for a same-day visit
- Vomiting or diarrhea once or twice, in a pet who is still bright
- Off their food for a day, or drinking more than usual
- Limping but still putting some weight on the leg
- Itching, ear scratching or a new hot spot
- A small cut or a lump that appeared quickly
- Peeing more often, or in odd places
Go to an emergency hospital now
- Trouble breathing, blue or pale gums
- A swollen, tight belly with retching that brings nothing up
- Collapse, a seizure or being unable to stand
- A male cat straining in the litter box with little or no urine
- Eating something toxic, such as xylitol, rat bait or lilies
- Heavy bleeding, or being hit by a car
How it works
From the phone call to the plan.
Same-day slots go fastest in the morning. The earlier you call, the more choice of time you get.
- 01
Call from 8 am
Tasha asks a few quick questions about what you are seeing and how long it has been going on.
- 02
A time today
We give you the next held slot. If it sounds urgent, a technician talks to you right then.
- 03
Exam and options
The doctor examines your pet and explains what could be going on, with a priced plan for tests or treatment.
- 04
A follow-up call
We call the next day to see how things are, and sooner if test results come back.
Client words
What clients say
Called at eight, in by eleven, x-rays by noon. The sock came out on its own two days later, exactly as Dr. Ruiz said it might.
Tasha told me honestly that what I was describing needed the emergency hospital, not them. I am glad she did.

Diagnostics on site
Answers in the same visit.
Our in-house lab and digital x-ray mean most answers come back while you wait, so treatment can start the same day.
- 01
Bloodwork
Blood counts and organ values from our in-house lab, usually within 20 minutes.
- 02
Urine and stool tests
For thirst, accidents, diarrhea and upset stomachs, run on site.
- 03
Digital x-rays
For limps, coughs, swallowed objects and tummy trouble. We show you the images on screen.
- 04
Skin and ear tests
A quick look under the microscope tells us whether it is yeast, bacteria or mites.
- 05
Outside lab work
Some tests go out overnight. We call with the results and what they mean.
What it costs
Know the price before the tests.
A sick visit starts with the exam fee. The doctor then suggests tests or treatment, prices each one and lets you choose what happens today and what can wait.
Questions
Sick visit questions
Short answers for a stressful morning. When in doubt, call.
Ask us: (555) 214-0186Do you take walk-ins?
We prefer a call first so we can hold the right amount of time and spot anything that should go straight to an emergency hospital. If you are already on your way, call from the car.
What if you are fully booked?
We keep same-day slots open every weekday, and it is rare that we run out. If we do, we tell you honestly, suggest the earliest time we have and, if it cannot wait, direct you to the nearest emergency hospital.
How much does a sick visit cost?
The sick visit exam is $78 (illustrative). Any tests or treatment are explained and priced before they happen, and you can choose which to do today.
What happens after hours?
Call (555) 214-0199. The message gives the details of the nearest emergency hospital. We get their notes the next morning and follow up with you.
Should I withhold food before a sick visit?
Not usually. If your pet is vomiting, skip the next meal and offer small amounts of water, and tell us when you call. We will say if anything else is needed.
