Buying new versus resale in Austin: a side-by-side look
A new home costs more per square foot up front but usually less to run and maintain in the first ten years. A resale home can offer a mature neighborhood and a faster move. The right choice depends on your timeline, budget and how much renovation you want to take on.
With a new build you choose finishes, get current energy codes and start with fresh warranties. The tradeoff is time: most builds take seven to ten months, and young landscaping takes years to fill in.
Resale homes can close in thirty to forty-five days and often sit among older trees. Budget for updates, especially roofs, windows and mechanical systems near the end of their lives.
Price the first ten years, not just the purchase. Utilities, repairs and updates belong in the comparison.
