Dr. Tam grew up in the Dallas area and has been caring for patients here for more than ten years. He would rather show you your own scan than tell you what is wrong, and he builds plans around prevention first.

The short answer

Who is Dr. Larry Tam?

Dr. Larry Tam is a general dentist and the owner of Custerpoint Family Dental on Custer Road in Plano. He is a Plano native, a graduate of Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry, and he has spent more than ten years caring for patients across the Dallas area, with a focus on prevention and clear explanations.

Why did Dr. Tam open a practice in Plano?

Dr. Tam grew up in the Dallas area, and Plano is home. When he opened a practice, he opened it on Custer Road, a few minutes from the neighborhoods he knows.

That local history is the reason the office runs the way it does. The same two dentists see you every visit, the front desk knows your name, and a plan made this year still makes sense when you come back next year.

Decisions about equipment, scheduling and how long a visit takes are made in the building, not by a regional office.

Why it helps

What is a visit with Dr. Tam like?

01

You see what he sees

Your scan or X‑ray goes up on the chairside screen. Dr. Tam points to the tooth in question, explains what he is looking at, and answers questions before anything is decided.

02

Options, in plain language

Most problems have more than one fix. You hear the trade-offs of each, including waiting when waiting is safe, so the choice stays with you.

03

Prevention before treatment

His old-site bio puts it simply: help patients understand their oral needs so they can reach their goals through prevention, and treat conditions as they come up.

04

A gentle, unhurried pace

Patients who have been away from the dentist for a while tend to relax once they realize nobody is going to lecture them. You set the pace, and you can ask him to stop at any point.

The technology

Which technology does Dr. Tam use every day?

Dr. Tam invested in equipment that cuts visits and guesswork. These are the tools you will see in his treatment rooms in Plano.

  3. 03

    In-office 3D printing

Models, provisionals and appliances are printed here. In his words, it improves turnaround time and lets the team be specific with the design.

    Chairside screens

Every scan and X‑ray is shown on a screen beside the chair, so the conversation happens with the evidence in front of you.

What does "One Visit. Done." mean?

It is Dr. Tam's own tagline for same‑day crowns. The practice has a Glidewell mill, which shapes a crown in the office from your digital scan.

In his words, most crowns are scanned, designed and seated in one appointment. That usually means no temporary crown, no second numbing shot and no second drive back to Custer Road.

Not every tooth fits a same‑day crown. A cracked tooth below the gumline, or a crown that needs a specific lab material, can still take two visits, and he will tell you which one you are before you book. See crowns and bridges for how it works.

Who does Dr. Tam see?

Most of his patients are adults: people establishing routine care after a move or a long gap, and people who need restorative work such as crowns, implants or a full-mouth plan.

The practice still sees children and teenagers, so a household can keep one dental office for every age. If you are new to Plano, a new patient exam is the place to start.
